A 21-year-old man already in jail facing burglary and theft charges has been charged with another burglary, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

The latest charge stems from a reported burglary Aug. 31. On that date, neighbors reported they saw an unknown man arriving at and exiting a home on Andrade Road in Pepeekeo while the owners were away. When they confronted the suspect, he ran away, police said.

Investigation by the Area I Criminal Investigations Section led to the identity of the suspect as Scott Taira of Pepeekeo, who was arrested last week and charged with burglary and theft for a break-in Sept. 4 on Maukaloa Street in Pepeekeo.

Detectives arrested Taira on Wednesday at Hawaii Community Correctional Center and took him to the Hilo Police cellblock, where they processed him and charged him with first-degree burglary for the Aug. 31 break-in. His bail on that offense was set at $5,000.

He was returned to the jail pending his initial court appearance for the latest charge today.
